Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails)

We are an engineering office for software. We develop web-based software, and we specialize in complex portals and platforms that are simple to use, easy to find, and work perfectly on any device. Our focus thereby always lies on quality and security. 100% line coverage is the norm in our projects. Thanks to our location in Wallisellen, near Zurich, we maintain short communication channels to our customers.

We are highly educated, and our know-how covers the whole spectrum of web technologies and systems. In today's fast-paced digital world, we consider it crucial to stay up-to-date and continuously educate ourselves. We don't develop cookie-cutter solutions but approach every project on its own. This is why our projects are as unique as our customers.

We are looking for you as a software engineer to support our team.

Your tasks

As a software engineer at Renuo, you'll work to build new product features and keep our apps fast, secure, and reliable. Depending on your interests and skills, you may do more frontend work, using HTML, CSS and JavaScript, or more backend work, where our primary technology is Ruby on Rails. We also use other technologies like Flutter for mobile development.

In particular, this means:

• Software engineering using web technologies (mostly Ruby / JavaScript / HTML / CSS)

• Requirements engineering, technical assistance, and advisory of clients

• Database design using SQL (Postgres, MySQL)

• Participation in project management and requirements specification

We're not into heroics or all-nighters: this is a 34 to 42-hour per-week job maximum.

Our expectations

We're looking for candidates with at least a Bachelor Degree in an engineering discipline.

You should be experienced in the Ruby ecosystem and with the staples of full-stack web development: HTTP, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.

If you lack any of this, that’s no problem. We will teach you! We care about what you can do and how you do it, not about how you got here.

In particular, this means:

• You've got an engineering degree (at least B.Sc.)

• You have a lot of programming experience and are familiar with Ruby on Rails

• You're at home on the web (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)

• Every other programming experience is a nice to have: Java, Python, Elixir, Rust, etc...

This is not a remote job. You must be located somewhere in Switzerland and that you come to the office three times a week.

What we offer

Depending on your experience, you can expect a salary between CHF 84,000 and 108,000.

• Learning days: We hold a shorter version of the Learning Week each quarter. A Learning Day focuses on a specific topic, and everyone is free to attend or not to attend.

• At least 20% of company profits are shared: We share 10% of the company's profits with all employees every year. We donate another 10% to charity and open-source projects.

• Flexible working hours: For us, this means not only that you decide when you work, but also how much. The salary is based on the hours worked, and you get a flexible hours/week contract. You decide how much you want to work.

• Partner model: We have an "employees shares program" to become a Renuo partner once per year.
